Chapter XXV

The best thing in Russia is that, you never know how the day will end. Yesterday we desided spontaneously with Ksenia to spent our evening in Петроградский остров. The island was beautiful, and I wondered how can it be, that I have never before been there. Finally we ended up to have some tea in other workmate’s appartment. She had definitelly the most elegant Russian appartment that I have seen this far in here.

I was at home about 1:00. The day was great, and the wheather fantastic: summer is finally here!

On Monday I have my birthday, so on Saturday I’m about to have some fun in the night of St. Petersburg’s. I must send best regards in Finland to Inkeri, who has her birthday at the same day; I feel sorry to party without you!

Chapter XXIV

7:30 at this morning I finally landed back home. My attention was to go to school and have a lecture 10:00, but seriously I was way too tired, and continued sleeping at home. I woke up 11:00 and had a cold shower. Once again we have no warm water, no electricity and elevator has stopped also working in the dormitory.

The day was horrible, but in the evening I met Elaisa and Mark, the German exchange student, and got to share experiences of Russia. We had great time, and I feel much better already. I have been here about 10 weeks, but only now I have got a connection to the others here in St. Petersburg.

Tomorrow I will have work, but now I’m going to sleep as much as I like. Добрый ночь!

Chapter XXIII

The worst day ever.

I’m now (04:15) sitting in my friends kitchen, awake. Why did I end up in this point, is a long story. But I will tell about it.

Holidays are over and I headed into school and work today. In work I got new quick project, deadline is today. I’m used to work at nights, so I figured out I could hang around with my friends ja spent outside this beautiful day. So I met Vasya and Astrid, then experienced one exhibition in Art re.FLEX Gallery with Elaisa and her flatmate. And then I was called from work and asked about this project. I was supposed to sent it right away by e-mail. Well we were in the middle of St. Petersburg and started to hunt Internet cafe. Finally we decided to end up in Elaisas place. The Internet was slow and the file huge, and we worked hard couple of hours without any luck. So I decided to go home, but it was already mid night, and public transport finished working. I stayed with Elaisa and decided to finish this project on my own, which I did, and just sent the file. Furthermore, my computer left to the office, so I have started to learn German language by using Elaisa’s German computer..

Damn, how many things can go wrong? This is just unlikely. Maybe I should sleep sometimes.

St. Isaac's Cathedral

Victory Day

Victory Day.. I spent it with Elaisa, my Italian graphic/fashion designer friend, whom I met in language course. We were expecting the parade of Victory Day to begin 10:00 in the morning, but really it started 17:00.. So we spent all day doing nothing, which was damn fun! We experienced views from the roof of Исаакиевский собор, St. Isaac’s Cathedral, visited interesting restaurants and just hung around. Luckily the weather was summery. I even burned my skin already.

I have never seen that much people in one place at the same time as was in Невски during the parade. Parade was great although it was hard to get into national mood. Well, my native country is Finland, and I missed that land deeply today.

Holidays are now over, and I must go back to the school and to the office of Archido tomorrow. But finally I’m on schedule with my schoolwork!

Chapter XXI

I spent the best weekend in Псков, Pihkava, which is a town in Russia near Estonia. Unfortunately I forgot camera, so I have no pictures to publish.

Pihkava is a hometown of Vasya’s, and we spent these days with his family. Experiencing Russian home was great. As a guest I was treated very well: Vasya’s mother took care we didn’t starve, and his father even cut my hair! On Saturday evening I met Vasya’s grandfather, who speaks Finnish as his mother tongue. It was fantastic to meet him, even though he was already forgot Finnish a little bit. On Sunday we visited old Russian border, ate packed lunch in the car and swam in a Holy water. I can’t beliave what all Vasya has got me to do. He taught me to pray orthodox way, and took me to the orthodox church. Weekend was too soon over, and early this morning we traveled back to St. Petersburg. With Vasya we spent nights more or less speaking and drinking tea. Luckily I have now three days of holiday, and time to sleep!

Felt like home in Pihkava, with Vasya’s family. I came to the conclusion that we have lived also kind of like Russian style with my family in Finland. Thanks to my mother! I can be myself here: quiet if I like, rude if I like, and a little bit of vanity is only a good feature..  Russians are very cultural people, it’s easy to find common interests. Usually without even common language!

Мой Первомай!

Quick reality check:

So we had Первомай, and I experienced it with Vasya in the parade of Невски проспект. IN, because we actually joined the parade, and had so much fun.

With myself I’m a little bit confused. I’m all the time so late and so lost! For example I have tomorrow morning one deadline, and I have not even started. Before Russia I wouldn’t expected myself behaving like this, but let’s face it: I love this casual me. I love this brutal chaos!

It’s a miracle how have I survived in school because of my work in Archido. Because of 9.5. (Victory Day), we are having 4 days off from work, and I started my vacation in absolutely satisfied mood. Finally I got two projects for St. Petersburg DesignWeek into some point, and I sensed that the chief was also satisfied with my work. So I’ll be back in the office 10.5.!

Today I for a change studied in the university, but also had the very best lunch with Olga and Dimitri, thank you! :)

Metro

So I did experienced Russian nightclub. The thing is that metro is closing here 00:00 and opening again 6:00, which means that the party is going on all night. And the night went fast! It was an absurd moment to walk home in St. Petersburg 7 a clock in the morning.

Anyway the nightclub was Metro, which is located on Ligovsky Prospekt. 3 floors with diffrent musics. Maybe the most interesting was the first floor with Russian club music, and third floor because of club dancers on the balcony of this room. Dancers, I mean men in thongs.

Thanks for Vasya, I had fantastic night!

With school, work and all I have been too greedy. I must work all holidays. And maybe I be clever and mix/unite works again. In Archido I got very interesting work to do: designing of united greenhouse and storage building. But deadline is next week, so I’m in a hurry again!
